How Did You Serve Your Loved One Today?

If you have followed me, you know that this month my goal is to strengthen and improve my relationship with my spouse.

My sweet hubby and I

With every goal, I invite all of you to join me, you can see the free printable here.

Today I got thinking though, “How did I serve my spouse today?”

And guess what, it’s just those few little things.

I had dinner for us, I made our bed, I washed some clothes.

To me it doesn’t seem like much, but I also know my husband appreciates all those little things.

Sunday Thoughts: Faith Over Fear, Let’s Choose Faith…

This topic of faith over fear is important.

Why?

Because faith over fear is a day-to-day, even minute-to-minute challenge.

In today’s world, where news and information is spread so very fast, fear can trap us and make us feel hopeless.

The definition of fear is “an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain, or a threat.”

There you have it….FEAR is an unpleasant emotion. Fear is an emotion that if it is felt too long, can not only be depressing, but it can be crippling to live with.

Now don’t get me wrong, fear is an emotion in human beings that is necessary to ward off danger. However, if FEAR never leaves us and we are constantly battling a life living in FEAR, that’s unsustainable, and that’s when we need to look to FAITH.

The definition of Faith is “complete trust or confidence in someone or something.”

How comforting to go from FEAR and an unpleasant emotion to having “complete trust or confidence. ”

Faith as we know is not CERTAIN, but it’s having the mind shift to know that things can and will get better.

If we had to choose between feeling FEAR or having the mind shift to have FAITH, which one would you choose?

I can imagine most people would logically say Faith.

So why is it so very difficult to have FAITH when times are hard?

Well, because FEAR seems more logical, and to be quite honest, as human beings I believe our minds have been trained to feel FEAR far more than it should.

When in reality, if our minds had a stronger sense of Faith, think how much more light and positivity we would experience in life.

There are so many different stories and accounts in the scriptures where FAITH has been a key factor in guiding people through trials.

One of my favorite examples of faith is in the Bible, Matthew 9, where the woman whom had an issue of blood for twelve years had faith that if she touched the Saviors garment, she would be made hole.

Matthew 9:22 “But Jesus turned him about, and when he saw her, he said, Daughter, be of good comfort; they faith hath made thee whole. And the woman was made whole from that hour.”

I feel that this particular scripture is empowering and convincing on why having Faith over Fear is crucial.

This poor woman had suffered for twelve years with an issue of blood. Can you imagine what that must have been like for her? Can you imagine the bouts of fear and hopelessness she was sure to experience with this?

And yet, even after twelve years of dealing with this trail and struggle, she choose FAITH over FEAR and it made her whole.

I know FAITH will not always guarantee that the ending will turn out like you may desire.

But isn’t it better to have hope and faith in the future, than to live with fear and anxiety?

Isn’t it better to feel light and peace, than to feel darkness and stress?

So how do we create that shift from FEAR to FAITH?

Practice, practice, and practice.

And may I add, a lot of praying.

Prayer provides a pathway to Faith. It reminds us that we have a guide, and a source that can conquer all the fears that come in this world. Prayer is our communication with God, and with him on our side, He can help us to choose Faith over Fear every time.

And now, I must be open, and admit, that I write this post as a reminder to MYSELF, that FAITH over FEAR is key to living a happier and more fulfilling life.

Faith helps us to feel whole.

Faith brings hope.

Faith brings peace.

Who wouldn’t want to experience wholeness, hope and peace?

My mind is at a constant battle of Faith over Fear.

And you know what, today Faith is winning.

I hope I can say the same for tomorrow and the next day.

However, it’s a day-to-day challenge, and I strive my best to remember that Faith is light, and light brings peace.

Yes we have much going on in the world to bring FEAR into our lives, however, we also have much going on in the world to bring Faith.

And I choose Faith.

I know Faith can be by your side as well, if you just let it in.

Happy Sunday.

A Letter of Advice to My Younger Self….

Have you thought about this?

What advice would you give your younger self?

I think this question is a great one to reflect on, because it can remind us what to prioritize in our lives today.

Here are —–pieces of advice I would give my younger self, in my twenties.

  1. Don’t overanalyze or over-stress. So what if you aren’t the Tip Top of everything you pursue, your mental health will be so much better if you can relax and enjoy life more.
  2. Save more money. When we are young it’s nice to have a good income and to be able to afford what you’d like, but having a bigger nest egg for your future family is always a great thing. Now I am NOT saying don’t spend any of your money, but keep a budget.
  3. Enjoy your hobbies! As life gets on it’s harder and harder to put time into hobbies, enjoy them now.
  4. Learn to eat to fuel your body with nourishment. Once you realize your body needs healthy food to work and function properly, you will be amazed at how amazing the body is.
  5. Workout! Enjoy working out and create that lifestyle habit of moving your body every day.
  6. It’s ok to fail, in fact, you learn a lot from it! Don’t fear failure. Think of how many accomplished people would never be where they are today if they NEVER took a chance on their dream.
  7. Surround yourself with positive uplifting people in your life. These people may be family, friends or co-workers. Make sure those people closest to you are creating a “happy vibe.”
  8. It’s not all about YOU–do something everyday for someone else. Service is truly the key to happiness.
  9. Get outside and away from technology. Getting some fresh air can be so helpful to the mind, spiritually, mentally, emotionally and physically. Even better, getting away from technology and the “fast paced,” life can bring a sense of peace into your life that will benefit you abundantly.
  10. Stop comparing yourself to others, and just be the best you!

5 Things I Learned in College

I was in college from 2003-2008, then went back to grad school from 2009-2013.

I have zero regrets when it comes to going to college.

I feel like college taught me more than academics.

Here is a list of 5 Things I learned in college.

  1. I learned that I was smarter than I thought I was. I have always had to work hard in school, and labeled myself as “average.” However, college was a reminder that even if I wasn’t at the “top of the class,” I still had more intelligence than I gave myself credit for.
  2. Confidence- college gave me MUCH more confidence. Not just with academics but with public speaking, working with groups of people, technology…and the list goes on. If you want to build your confidence—go back to school!
  3. College taught me to work the HARDEST. I say “hardest” because working hard is not always enough…often times, you have to work the “hardest” you ever have. That means sacrificing social life, favorite tv shows, traveling, and more. Working “hardest” means studying through dinner sometimes, or waking up at the crack of dawn to study before other classes begin. It’s extremely hard work at times, but how rewarding it is to know you have worked your “hardest.”
  4. College taught me how to prioritize my life. When you have a full load of classes, it’s important to prioritize which class to study for first, what assignments to get done first, and so forth. Prioritizing is more than just organizing life, it’s making sure you put the most important things first.
  5. Balance-Along with prioritizing life, college taught me balance. Like that one semester I rarely socialized and I got straight A’s, but I realized my emotional well-being was struggling and I needed friends, so the next semester I didn’t get all “A’s” but I did have some fun memories with friends. Because part of college is creating fun memories with friends and roommates.

So if you ever ask me if you should go to college …I’d say “Yes,” …100% you should go to college.

The life lessons learned at college are incredibly life changing.

If you went to college ..what would you add to this list ??
