This recipe has been used in my family for years. It’s actually quite neat to think about where I received the recipe. I went to a babysitter training workshop when I was 10 years old and one of the little workshops talked about fun treats to make! I don’t know if they do little classes like this anymore but I sure learned a lot about tending children and I feel like it benefited me for years to come.
With that being said…this little recipe only takes a few ingredients, and only takes about 25 minutes of your time. Your family will devour it and ask you for more. I have tweaked a few things, and even better, it’s gluten free!
This ooey-gooey, delicious cereal treat makes approximately 15 treats depending on the size you create.
So cutting right to it…enjoy this recipe!
PEANUT BUTTER CEREAL TREATS
Ingredients:
2 1/2 cups of corn checks cereal
2 3/4 cups of gluten-free cheerio (Note that you can add 3/4 cups of corn pops here instead of the 3/4 portion of cheerios but it will NOT be gluten free).
1 cup sugar
1cup karo syrup
1 cup peanut butter
1 teaspoon Mexican vanilla
Instructions:
In a large bowl combine both cereals together and mix well. Set aside.
Lay out parchment paper or wax paper on the table (about the size of 2 cookie sheets), to prepare to drop the cereal mixture on.
In a large saucepan, combine sugar and karo syrup and bring to a boil. Once boiling, stir in the peanut butter and return to a boil. Stir frequently and allow mixture to boil for one minute to obtain a smooth texture.
Take the saucepan off the heat and stir in the teaspoon of Mexican vanilla (any vanilla works, but I favor Mexican vanilla).
Once all ingredients are combined, pour the sauce mixture in the cereal and begin to stir. Scrape the sides and bottom of the bowl to make sure all the sauce is mixed with the cereal.
Once combined, take a large spoon and drop cereal treats onto the wax paper.
Let cool a few minutes, then devour!
Enjoy!
